10,000 farmers in Kaduna State,Nigeria, are to benefit from the distribution of farm inputs by the Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS).
The Project Coordinator,Yahaya-Aminu Abdulhadi, who made the disclosure during the delivery of the farm inputs to farmers’ cooperatives at Biye, Giwa Local Government on Thursday, said the intervention include fertilisers, improved seeds, herbicides among others.
He said the distribution, which commenced in Biye, Giwa Local Government will capture 985 farmers in the community, adding that it targets a total of 10,000 across the state.
He said the second phase of the intervention would include equipment such as harvesters, thrashers and tractors.
While noting that the intervention was occasioned by demands, he said this is to ensure that farmers were empowered to enable them make judicious use of the support.
“We want them to make use of the knowledge and the resources that was avail them under the APPEALS project, so that they can shift from being subsisting farmers to commercial and economically viable farming enterprises,” he said.
Meanwhile, the project coordinator disclosed that the project was supported by the World with the mandate of Kaduna State Government to support farmers from production, processing and marketing.
Already, he said beneficiaries have signed agreement with off-takers to ensure there is market for their farm produces.
