The Federal Government has restated its commitment to developing the apiculture industry even as it tasked bee-keepers as well as processors on best standard.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said the Federal Government is willing to develop the sub sector and leverage on international alliance to boost productivity and create jobs.
Ogbeh disclosed this at the 6th ApiEXPO Africa 2018 themed: “Beekeeping Industry for Sustainable Development, Wealth Creation and Economic Diversification.” It held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
Over 54 African countries including international exhibitors were present for the expo. It also served as a platform to discuss on ways to further develop global Apiculture, especially as it relates to the role of African countries.
As a result, the Minister said efforts are ongoing to develop the national Apiculture industry.
In his remarks, President Muhammadu Buhari pushed for regional trade and integration of the agricultural commodity.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, Buhari noted that the government was building the capacities of bee-keepers and processors to develop the sector.
He emphasised that the move would help strengthen linkages with regional and international corporations.
