PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday applauded Amina Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for winning the Global Citizen Award.
Buhari recognised Mohammed, his former cabinet member on environment for her commitment to helping the poor and vulnerable across the globe.
He also praised her commitment to global development, particularly towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targeted to end extreme poverty by 2030.
While accepting the award held recently in London, she said, “It can no longer be business as usual. The statoscope is no longer available to anyone.”

She charged all leaders across levels in all nations across the sectors to embrace several developmental policies for betterment of the people and the planet.
“We must do that now.”
Mohammed was in charge of the Federal Ministry of Environment prior to her appointment at the UN.
She was at the front-burner ensuring the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on the Ogoni clean-up which was eventually inaugurated by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President in 2016.
