The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) on Wednesday warned State Governments and residents to prepare for more flooding as a result of heavy rainfall.
Director-General of the agency, Engr. Clement Nze disclosed this at a briefing in Abuja stressing that the heavy downpour might commence in September.
He said more floods were expected with the alarming rate of rainfall the country is experiencing presently.
Nze said river flooding will begin next month as a result of increase in water from Rivers Niger and Benue.
According to him, there is a high probability that more states will witness more river and urban flooding in the coming months.
Selected states across the country have however been counting their losses including farmers with other casualties such as women and children.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has also been on alert to reduce pains from flooding especially in the prone areas.
