FG Commissions Earth Dam at Funtua to Revive Agriculture in Katsina

The Federal Government has commissioned and handed over the reconstructed Maska Earth Dam at Funtua Local government Area of Katsina state.

President Muhammadu Buhari, speaking during the commissioning, said the reconstructed dam will reinvigorate agricultural and economic activities and stabilize the states economy.

Buhari, represented by the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu described the project as one among many ecological intervention projects embarked on by the current administration in every part of the country through the Ecological Fund Office in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“I have no doubt in mind that this laudable project has indeed set the stage for the re-invigoration of agricultural production and other economic activities expected to stabilize the socio-economic lives of the people of Funtua Maska and environs.

“The project is one of the many ecological intervention projects across the six geopolitical zones approved by the president from the inception of his administration.”

The President explained that the project is expected to address the decay and degradation  of the dam that provides water for agricultural purposes such as farming, grazing and other need of the communities.

He noted that the project completion and commissioning is a fulfilment of FG’s promises that no part of the Country will suffer neglect as a result of its geographical location, political inclination or for any reason whatsoever.

He comemended the people of the benefiting communities for cooperating and providing rancor free environment during the course of the project execution while urging them; to own and maintain the Project as well as to ensure its sustainability.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office (EFO), Dr. Mrs Habiba Lawal shed light on the reason for the reconstruction of the dam, while adding That the resources which the Federal Government had committed to the Project must not be allowed to waste.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by Mr. Awal Sanni revealed that the Commissioning and Hand-over of the Project was expected to encourage the benefiting Communities to take ownership of the Project and so ensure its care and sustainability.

Magaji Maska Alhaji  Abdulahi Umar, who received the Certificate on behalf of the community thanked the FG and prayed to God to bless the present Govt for coming to their rescue.
