Kwara State government has donated relief materials worth over N80 million to about 1,800 households affected by the 2020 flooding.
The three benefitting local government areas are; Moro, Edu and Patigi.
Speaking during distribution of the materials in Jebba, Moro LGA on Wednesday, the chairman, Implementation committee, Architect Aliyu Mohammed, called for attitudinal change on the part of residents to forestall reoccurrence.
He advised residents to avoid erecting structures against water flow and desist from dumping refuse in gutters or culverts.
He unfolded the state government’s plan to replicate the Ilorin master plan in all major towns and cities in the state.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Mamman Jibril, enjoined members of the local committee to ensure that all items get to target victims, while urging residents of the area to ensure judicious use of the items.
He noted that the intervention was not proportionate to the losses suffered,adding that the most important aspect of the intervention was the act and level of concern of the government to its people towards serving as succour and sense of belonging to the victims.
Some of the palliative items distributed to affected victims of 2020 flood disaster included cement, roofing sheets, nails of different sizes, rice, semovita and vegetable oil.
