The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday, says it has commenced the harvest of its 60 hectares rice farm in Saminaka, Shanga Local Government Area(LGA) Kebbi State, Nigeria.
It said its farm settlements across the country were being enhanced especially with supply of equipment and other necessary inputs.
The NYSC Director General (DG), Brigadier General, Shuaibu Ibrahim made the disclosure at a media chat held in Abuja.
He said the move is jeered towards harnessing the scheme’s revenue generation potential through reinvigorating its various ventures.
According to him, the scheme’s farms, including the mega ones in the FCT, Bauchi, Kenbi and Oyo States, will contribute to the Federal Government’s efforts towards ensuring food security.
Also, he said this will further accord Corps members with key trainings.
His words:” We are working towards harnessing our revenue generation potential through the reinvigoration of the various NYSC ventures.
“Presently, we are harvesting rice in our sixty hectare rice farm in Saminaka, Shanga LGA of Kebbi State.”
Also, he expressed the scheme’s determination to optimize the operation of the NYSC garment factory in Minna, Niger and Mgbaku, Anambra State.
“Our plan is to intensify the training of Corps members at the factories and to ultimately produce the required quantities of all NYSC kids there.
“The garment production will also be an avenue for contribution to the local content strides of the FG,”he added.
