Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday disclosed plans to invest a sum of N3billion on water supply in urban and rural areas of the state.
It said out of the amount, a sum of N500million will be used for repairs of faulty public boreholes throughout the state.
The Chairman, Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Mr Najeem Omirinde, made the disclosure while speaking with journalists on activities of the agency in Ibadan.
He said chairmen of all local government areas and Local Community Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state have been contacted to submit the list of such 10 faulty boreholes in their respective areas.
According to him, the state’s had directed that every new borehole dug in public areas must be solar-powered so as to ensure the durability of the project.
However, he called on residents to write the agency on any plan to dig boreholes for public and private use.
According to him, the agency executes such, at a subsidized rate compared to private borehole-drilling companies.
